Blues in the Schools
Blues in the Schools
Mr. Fruteland Jackson is an award-winning blues educator and a professional blues musician, who is based out of Chicago. Since 1992, Fruteland has been involved with blues education and has now stopped counting after presenting to his one-millionth student a number of years ago. He was instrumental in developing the first Blues in the Schools (BITS) curriculum and has since developed a wide variety of presentations, programs, and curricula for different age and ability levels. He won the “Keeping the Blues Alive” educational award from the Blues Foundation for his blues education work and has presented all over the USA, and in other countries. October 16-18 he will be presenting at 6 schools on both sides of the Ohio River.
A public fundraising show for our BITS program, featuring Fruteland will be on Wed. Oct. 18, 2017 starting at 7:00 pm in the Graham Auditorium of Washington State Community College, 710 Colegate Dr., Marietta OH. The High Schools That Rock will do a short opening set. Fruteland will then do a 90 minute performance. Admission will be a $5.00 donation to BJFM’s Blues in the Schools program. We hope that this can provide a positive, family-oriented, and entertaining program for our local communities.
