The BJFM Society has always felt a commitment to provide the Mid-Ohio Valley communities with a FREE educational, historical and cultural program about genres of music from American history. We have done this in various formats with our BITS (Blues in the Schools) program. Currently since 2015, we provide free presentations to students both as a whole group and in smaller Q&A sessions. We have presented programs that are both educational and entertaining to close to 20 schools and almost 15,000 students. If you want us to visit your school, email or call us.
Past schools visited (many multiple times from 2015 to present) include:
A free educational community service that explains blues music in American musical history and American history more broadly.
Primarily middle-school students, with some high-school and upper-elementary audiences, at rural and in-town Mid-Ohio Valley schools and a local juvenile detention center.
Certified blues educators who are also full-time musicians combine history, performance in different blues styles, whole-school presentations, and question-and-answer sessions for music students.
Vanessa Collier – Berklee College of Music graduate; composer, singer, saxophonist, touring bandleader, self-producing recording artist, Blues Music Award nominee/winner, and saxophone teacher. BJFM previously hosted her in 2019.
